The exhibition "Lim Dim" at the Stenersen Museum, Oslo, Norway in 2009, was a collaboration between "Du store verden" DSV, and Transposition. (Du store verden/DSV, now known as Transnational Arts Production (TrAP) is an organisation dedicated to the promotion of cultural and creative diversity in Norway. Transposition runs a programme for musical collaboration between Norway and Vietnam.)
Six of the 16 Vietnamese artists exhibiting attended the opening in Oslo. Most of this group of artists belong to a small, solid group in Hanoi who work with installation, performance and video.
The title "Lim Dim" is Vietnamese for regarding something with eyes partly shut. It describes a person who is partially asleep, or deep in thought, or perhaps secretly studying other people. Lim Dim in this instance refers to a new, young generation of Vietnamese artists who receive little recognition in their home country, but have gained attention in the international visual arts arena.
The curator of this exhibition, Tran Luong, has received international attention as both an artist and a curator. He has made a huge contribution to Vietnamese contemporary art practice, by bringing Hanoi artists together into a group supporting creativity, experimentation and thinking in contemporary arts.
